{Posted July 14th, 2008} Great new interview with Femme Noir co-creator, Christopher Mills, courtesy of Joe Hilliard and PopThought.com.

{Posted July 13th, 2008} "I can't tell you how many comics I've read in the past ten years that have tried and failed to achieve the sort of storytelling and atmosphere that Femme Noir gets just right. It's about as good as crime comics get these days, fine competition for my other favourite crime comic Criminal, with the added bonus that its tone and style are completely different. The Spirit may provide a bit of the inspiration for this series, but Mills and Staton take that inspiration and make something both new and familiar, something gorgeous to look at and wildly entertaining to read. "
Alan David Doane, ComicBookGalaxy.com review on Femme Noir #1.

{Posted June 23rd, 2008} "Femme Noir, is finally (finally!) making it into print, revamped and ready to kick ass, and anyone out there who likes detective stories and comic books and isn't getting enough high-fibre pulp in their diet is definitely in for a treat. Imagine Red Harvest meets The Dark Knight, starring the bastard love-child of radio's The Shadow and Eisner's The Spirit set loose in Gotham City, with a script cobbled together by Chester Gould, Dash Hammett and Bob Kane on a three-day bender (possibly at Spillane's house). And then imagine the Spirit as a dame with to-die-for-gams in a broad-brimmed hat, a trenchcoat, fishnets and spike heels. Armed with twin automatics not afraid to sneeze "KA-CHOW!"
Kevin Burton Smith, ThrillingDetectiveBlog.Blogspot.com review on Femme Noir #1.

{Posted June 22nd, 2008} "I was enthralled with the story and completly wrapped in the art. The city the story takes place is like giant combination of Gotham City, Dark City, and New York’s Hell’s Kitchen all rolled into one. Obviously not a place you want to visit, but a place people love to read about."

{Posted June 8th, 2008} "Femme Noir, as the name would imply, is solid gumshoe-goodness filled genre entertainment. The book and style clearly pay homage to Will Eisner, but it doesn't get lost in that feel. Writer Christopher Mills has clearly found his own back beat as the characters rampage through witty dialogue, fun action and the occasional elements of suspense. Here, there are loads of atmosphere and I found myself enjoying the hard boiled storytelling panel after panel."
Chuck Moore, ComicRelated.com advance review on Femme Noir #1 & #2. (Thanks, Chuck!)

{Posted June 8th, 2008} "Like Rick Veitch's Greyshirt, what could easily become pastiche is instead rendered as something unique that can stand on its own. Port Nocturne is indeed a city enveloped in darkness. Crime does run rampant. The cops are on the take, or inept. It rains. A lot. Women like Laurel Lye and Dahlia Blue inhabit it. But in Mills hands, it's not simply a façade; this is a lived-in city with some real backbone to it."
Joe Hilliard, PopThought.com advance review on Femme Noir #1 & #2.

{Posted June 2nd, 2008} "The story is great. The writing is dark, yet possesses just a hint of sarcasm. [Artist] Joe Staton is a master of his craft."

+"Staff Pick of the Week!" - WeeklyComicBookReview.com
+"Skipper Martin has stumbled on a golden high concept story idea." - ComicsBulletin.com
+"...this book has a fun and inventive treatment of human flight. It has bright, bouncy art that works hard to maintain the fun tone, and its length is just right." - AudioShocker.com
+"The best part of both of Skip Martin's Bizarre New World tales is that Martin just "gets" the way normal people would act in extraordinary situations." - CollectedEditions.Blogspot.com
+"There is a moment, halfway through, at a diner in the desert, that really explodes the myth of a new world. Man is still man, with all his foibles. Brilliant." - PopThought.com
+"This is a recommended read for anyone who has ever wanted to fly, or just wants to experience as fresh a comic as you can get in today’s marketplace." - EstellaBooks.Blogspot.com
+We finish the list off with a nice new podcast interview with creator Skipper Martin, courtesy of ComicRelated.com

{Posted April 17th, 2008} "Wagner's writing is a delight, effortlessly capturing the kind of ramblingly baroque rhythms of the old-school South; most of the characters are hyper-articulate prairie poets of the kind you might encounter in Huckleberry Finn…or possibly Raising Arizona. Four and 1/2 out of Five Vikings."
Adam Prosser, Chud.com advance review on Fiction Clemens #1.

{Posted April 17th, 2008} "It's about kids throwing a baseball over the fence separating them from a suspicious house, and the monsters they find. It's about wishing you were an interplanetary explorer, and finding out the new kid has a remote-control lizard. It's what more comics would be like if the industry hadn't lobotomized itself and succumbed to the demands of the OCD unit."

{Posted April 16th, 2008} "All in all a great series that should not be missed. In a day when there are so many titles on your comic shop shelves, especially from the many small independent outfits out there, this is one you do not want to pass up. THE MISADVENTURES OF CLARK & JEFFERSON is a fun comic series and come on, when is the last time you really had fun reading a comic series?"
Ron Fortier, ComicRelated.com review on Misadventures of Clark & Jefferson #1-4.

{Posted April 13th, 2008} "This book has it all: mobsters, tough guys, tougher gals, no nonsense cops, and lots of gunplay! The art is expertly executed (what you'd expect from an Eisner award winner) and compliments the story perfectly. Staton hits the mark of bridging everything you love about old crime/noir stories and gives it a slight modern sheen."
Mistah Z, ProjectFanboy.com advance review on Femme Noir #1.

{Posted April 12th, 2008} "Oftentimes, when writers center their stories around groups of children, the results are clunky approximations of what childhood is really like. Here, though, between the clever dialog and great artistic characterization, its perfectly nailed. You'll feel like a kid again, running into mischief with these kids, and poking fun at Pete's mom."
Mistah Z, ProjectFanboy.com advance review on White Picket Fences: Double Feature OGN.

{Posted April 12th, 2008} "The stories look as if they're aimed for a young audience, but I feel that adults would also appreciate the innocent charm of the kids as they're trying their best to get out of tricky situations."
Moya Dawson, PaperbackReader.com advance review on White Picket Fences: Double Feature OGN.

{Posted April 2nd, 2008} "Population Explosion is everything BNW was, only inordinately more complex and dramatic and, most importantly, it solidifies that Martin and Provencher aren’t one-trick ponies or one-hit wonders, even if this is technically the same series. I cannot recommend this book enough."
Dave Baxter, BrokenFrontier.com advance review on Bizarre New World: Population Explosion OGN.

{Posted April 1st, 2008} "If you liked The Shadow, or Will Eisner’s The Spirit or if you just plain old like action and adventure with a hint of romance, a slight edge of satire and the occasional mad scientist thrown in then this title deserves a look from you."

NeverWanderer, GeeksOfDoom.com advance review on Bizarre New World: Population Explosion.

{Posted March 26th, 2008} "This series, including this issue, has been characterized by great character arch-types and fantastic, fun writing. The banter between characters is worthy of either a Bruce Campbell or Bruce Willis type. The art throughout the series has been been great, nice crisp lines that allows both wonderful frame shots and action sequences. If you’ve been picking up the series you know you can’t miss the final issue and if you haven’t… either ask you local comic shop about back ordering or pick up the trade. SERIES GRADE: A"
Eric, HeroesTV.com review on Misadventures of Clark & Jefferson #4.

{Posted March 18th, 2008} "Admirers of the first series will be happy to see that despite all of this chaos POPULATION EXPLOSION still remains a story with its heart very much intact... As far as I'm concerned this is another home run from Skipper Martin and Ape Entertainment."
Kristian Horn, AintItCool.com advance review on Bizarre New World: Population Explosion.

{Posted March 8th, 2008} "In [the lead character] Paul, it's easy to see yourself. His frustrations, joys, excitement and everyman qualities are universal, honestly written and fun. There is no denying, this is a great concept and an outstandingly executed series."

{Posted January 2nd, 2005} Point Pleasant's own Chad Lambert answers '10 Questions' in the Indie Spotlight.

{Posted January 2005} OK, it's now 2005. Two-freakin'-thousand five. I don't know about you folks, but I have one burning question to which I demand an immediate answer: just where the hell is my flying car? As I was growing up, I couldn't wait for the 21st century: the intelligent robots, the miracle cures to end all ailments, and most importantly, the flying cars. So here we are, well into the 21st century I so eagerly awaited in my youth, and what do we have? PCs that crash with alarming regularity, pain relievers that lead to strokes and heart attacks, and NO FLYING CARS…yes, a steady stream of disappointments in place of the science-fiction utopia I was promised by The Jetsons. I am a veritable font of earthbound rage.

On the upside, we do have some killer books coming out this year…which is almost as good as living in a science-fiction utopia.

First thing's first: we've got an online preview of our forthcoming science-fiction graphic novel A Different Pace right here on our website. Our very own David Hedgecock writes the adventures of Lily and her rag-tag band of space pirates as they traipse about the galaxy in search of adventure and fabulous treasure. With art by Tetsu Liew, Vincent Ramirez, Terry Flippo, and a beautiful painted cover by Leanne Buckley, A Different Pace is 96 pages of funkadelic sci-fi fun! You can still order A Different Pace from your local retailer, so get to it. The book hits stores in February, so don't miss out on the fun!

In the February issue of Previews we'll be soliciting the prehistoric fantasy epic Pan-Gea from writer/artist James V. West, and in the March Previews, the full-color funny animal super-heroics of Go-Go Gorilla and the Jungle Crew! Our solicitation of these two books back-to-back is probably the ultimate in proof that Ape Entertainment has a little something for everyone: while Pan-Gea is a fire-born, blood-stained fantasy epic in the classic Heavy Metal style, Go-Go Gorilla is a light-hearted romp through the sunny side of superheroes. That's right, gang…we've got your diversity right here! Don't worry…we'll be bombarding you with online previews starting next month.

And just when you thought it was safe to dive back into convention season (is it just me, or does convention season only stop for X-mas and New Year's nowadays?), we're ready to announce our first convention appearance for 2005! The date: MARCH 18-20. The city: LONG BEACH, CALIFORNIA! The show: WIZARD WORLD! That's right, the Ape is once again joining the almighty Wizard in invading the City of Angels! Drop by our booth and meet A Different Pace writer and Ape co-founder David Hedgecock, Ape Omnibus contributor and Ape co-founder Brent Erwin, and Go-Go Gorilla artist Dustin Evans! We absolutely guarantee a boatload o' fun.

Cripes…the first "Grunts" of 2005 and I'm already talking about March! Something tells me it's going to be a busy year…

Love and bananas,
